Sprite wheel parts compatability for A40 Austin

I was at the Dixon car show this weekend and was talking parts with a sprite owner. He said that the Sprite wheel parts are compatible with the austin A35.

The Austin A40 comes with mechanical rear brakes and hydrolic drum on the front. His suggestion was that I should put Sprite disc brakes on the front of my A40 and leave the rears as they are.

I'm a Triumph owner, and I'm buying the A40 next month, so I don't yet have much experience with the car, except I have heard that I should upgrade the brakes somehow.

Any comments or suggestions?

I have an A40 Farina. (1959)
I am running Sprite front disc and rear shoes on it.
It's a bolt on conversion provided you have the parts handy.
I am using a 3/4" bore master cylinder from a Mini or MG 1100,
The brakes work perfectly.

this is a 1949 devon A40

I don't know if its the same

Re: Sprite wheel parts compatability for A40 Austi

I'm fairly sure that the Sprite/A40/A30/A35 suspension were originally designed for use on the A30, and so will not be the same as the A40 Devon.
There might be a way of using Sprite brakes, but I would guess it'll be more than a bolt on change.
https://www.austincounties.org.uk/ would probably be a good place to start your enquiries.

Hello Frank,
I seem to remember seeing pictures of Farina A40's running with perforated wheels which I assumed were Sprite wheels.
I am sure that the stud pattern is the same but is there a benefit in using them. Sports cars and saloon cars of that era both ran similar width tyres.

You're right, the wheels are interchangeable Sprite to A40 FARINA, but this isn't a Farina, it's a Devon - a completely different beastie.
