Sprite Weber carb question and problem!

Here are the symptoms: The car starts instantly and idles nice but as soon as it gets warm (around 180 degrees)the idle begins to change and become erratic with the car eventually stalling. The electric choke works perfectly and opens when the car is around 140 degrees. It smells like it is running rich. I am trying to tune this carb and so far I am not having much luck. I can't even figure out what model it is. I think it is a 32/36DFEV but I can't be sure. I have followed the Weber website tuning directions but I can't be sure I am even turning the correct screws. Can anybody point out what the screws are that I circled in black? These carbs are supposed to be simple to tune but I am having no luck so far. Here are some pics!

Hello Jg,
mthe upper screw you have circled is the jet retaining screw and holds the jey, ther is one similar on the oppisite side. the lowere screw is your mix adjustment. screw in to lean out out to richen. hard to see for sure but make sure the jet retainging screw are snug and follow the webber instructions. Good Luck keep us posted

I downloaded the Carburetor Set Up and Lean Best Idle Adjustment instructions from Redline Weber Carburetor. Hopefully they will solve the problem. If not.. I will remove the carb and tear it down and rebuild it. The old gas tank had alot of rust in it that actually clogged my fuel filter so maybe some of it got into the carb. Does it matter where the fuel filter is located? It was located right outside my carb but I mounted it near the gas tank because it is easier to get to considering my tank is inboard.

I have SU's so I can't be of much help on that Q. BUT -- on the fuel filter, I placed mine next tot the carbs and bought the clean glass one so that I could get a "quick look" when ever needed (I didn't want to crawl under the car to see if fuel was getting where it was suppose to). Hope this helps.

Ok, so I followed the Weber Redline base specs and the engine starts perfect and idles nicely. I now am experiencing a pretty severe hesitation. It stumbles (hesitates) really bad when I initially step on the gas. After I get past the stumble it revs up fine. Any suggestions?

jgcable,
Are you running with the vacuum advance on the distributor? If so plug the vacuum hole in the intake manifold and the line to the distributor and see if that helps. I tried using the vacuum advance without luck and am now only using the mechanical advance. I set my timing at 34 degrees total advance at 4000 rpm and let idle advance work itself out. This eliminated the stumble I had with my setup.

Yes, I am running the vacuum advance on my distributor but my line goes from the weber carb to the distributor. There is no line coming out of my manifold.

I am still having engine problems. I think it might be the Weber 32/36 DFEV. It has a pretty strong burnt fuel smell coming from the tailpipe. To me, the engine seems to slowly drown in fuel. After it warms up the engine starts to load up and the idle becomes bad. It eventually starts to idle down and eventually stalls. It starts right back up and runs great but only for a few minutes and then the same thing happens. I just ordered a rebuild kit for the carb. Does anybody think there could be any other problem?
