Sprite Spare Tire Mount

Hello,
Could someone please tell me what goes in the centre of the tire mount in the trunk. The mount is shaped like a volcano, but nothing is in the hole. Is it a hook or nut? I have the round plate for the spare tire, but that is it. Moss an VB do not list the parts I need.
Thanks Phil

Mine (1973) has a rod with threads on the end that goes in the hole in the fixture on the boot floor. On the top end is a flat metal strap with the ends bent down. Under the strap is a large washer with a flange that fits the hub. (see photo)

thanks for the info. now the hunt begins.

Ray, is that a boot light I see on your pic? Where did you get that then?

Pete,
I can't say for sure if the one in my car is repro, original, or NOS. It looks brand new, but the car only had 37K miles on it when it was restored, so it could be original. I've got receipts for a ton of NOS stuff that was accumulated over 9 years of restoration, so it could be in that bunch.

Jeff is correct in that they were the same for Midget Mk III and later. And yes they are available (repro presumably) from the usual sources.

Cheers, I'll stick my head in the trunk on Friday when I have some time, see if I have one! Still can't believe how clean your Midget is, you obviously don't live next to a farm like me!
Incidently, was looking through your site the other night and noticed a few of the pics on the project page didn't have working links.

No, it's not a farm car...or even a close to a farm car. Lives a fairly sheltered life.

I've fixed a number of the broken links and have a few to go...one of the prices paid in trying to put as much project info up as possible and quickly.

If you happen to notice it again, let me know which one(s) I've missed and I'll appreciate it.

Ray

Will do. I think you'd go nuts if you lived here, I washed my BMW the other day as it was caked in dust, and it looked exactly the same by the next morning! Will be getting a Carcoon for the Sprite as it gets restored I think...

I think Ray shows the car rather than races it /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Mike, Rays' tire rack is probably in the basement! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
I'd put up a pic of my trailer, but right now it has the race car,('62 Sprite) and the street '72 Midget in it. Along with 3 sets of tires.
Jeff

Rays car is a pristine midget.
