Nial, nice shots. Unfortunately, my "New" car won't be ready for the last race this season, so I guess I'll drive the stinkin Spitfire one more time! Its new owner wants me to take one last shot with it.

That was Watkins Glen last year. Hit the "styro-walls" (thank-you, NASCAR!) and did no damge to myself (other than dignity).
Car needed a new left front fender, left door, left rear fender (had to be cut off and welded on) and complete front left suspension (no frame damage).
I was racing a few weeks later at Summit Point...amazing what you can get done when there's a deadline!
Great shots. Was that an older Mr2 you took on the inside in that first pic, and are those 2nd gen rx-7's in the second pic. Thats some tough competion for a spridget.
Nial - when you replaced your rear fender, did it come from an earlier rig? or did you cut the fender out? I just noticed it doesn't have the lower lip out back like 1500s usually do, but it seems that your passenger side doess....
Sorry, I just noticed your question.
My left rear fender was cut off my '67 parts-car (using a Sawzall). I gas-welded it back onto my '78 chassis and then "radiused" both wheelwells (the way '73 Midgets look) so that I'd have more tire clearance.
Here's a picture that my friend Dave Zipkin just sent me of the same event. I can tell that it was taken during practice, because I have a camcorder mounted on the roll bar:
