Sprite Project

So here is the new project I drug home a few months ago, the car was a former airport racer in Southern California and was abandoned at small airport, where parts were lost. The car had no front sheet metal when I found it had a crude single hoop roll bar in it that I replaced with the newer roll bar. We are building it out to look like a true vintage racer. The guy that had the car said it was raced in the 60's with a Ford 200 ci inline 6 and 4 speed (why the batter box is cut out) so I don't know if I am going to put a stock motor back in it, thinking of putting the ford motor back in just because.

I am looking for a fiberglass front end so the fenders and hood I picked up will be for sale shortly.

Not a bad find for $200

Are you thinking period correct motor swap?

If so, the coventry climax would be awesome (though a bit pricey).

I thought about a Ford 300 six and five speed in a TR6 so...

The Ford 300 six is a bit heavy but would probably work out OK in a TR. Back when old Jag XK's and XKE's were just old cars it was a great swap into them. I had an XKE that I was rebuilding and sold the stock engine so that I could fit the more powerful and cheaper Ford motor. Fortunatly the guy reneged on the deal and I kept the Jag engine. Would have ruined the value of the car in later years.

Kurt.

Talk about a sleeper, back in the sixties a fellow road-racer built a early Sprite with a 1600CC Alfa Twincam engine and 5 speed. Absolutely stock from the outside but almost 3X the horsepower. Bob
