Sprite-Midget Club USA Calendar: Send Me Your Pic

As some of you already know, I have taken over the responsibility of creating a calendar for the sprite midget club. These calendars have been sold by the club for the past 5 years to raise funds for national meets such as the fantastic midget 50 we had this year.

Anyhow, to do this right I will need your pictures. Please send any you have of your spridgets. Better still, if you have any that show your car in a seasonal setting (such as buried in snow, haloween costumes, surrounded by turkeys, christmas spirit, etc). Racing paintingas and photos are great, working on your car in the garage is also great. Goofy spridget mods you have taken pictures of. ANYthing at all. the higher the res the better, but I will find a way to use anything you give me. Higher res pictures should be sent via a flicker (or other photo sharing service) account or better still use wikispaces.com to host the file (if it's bigger than 4mb) and send me the link. Otherwise just email the pictures to me.

my email is, sethamosjones@gmail.com

Any word from Gerard yet about using his original artwork?
Speaking for myself, I will not be buying a calender this year until I know that he's given you a release to use his work

Wait wait Phil, maybe that did not come out like you meant.

Did you really mean that they would not ask for permission or did you mean that you did not want a calender without his art work?

Re: Sprite-Midget Club USA Calendar: Send Me Your Pic

Seth posted some of his ideas for the calendar on the MGE forum. They looked really nice. He is planning on using Gerard's artwork, done in neon lights. It's a great idea. What I meant to say, is that unless Seth receives permission from Gerard to use his artwork I will not be buying a calender. I have a great deal of respect for artist's rights to their own hard work. On the other forum however Seth seemed reluctant to acknowledge the fact that Gerard has an absolute right to grant or deny any and all use of his work.
Everyone is free to purchase the calendar or not absent Gerard's permission and I'm only speaking for myself, but as the father of an artist, and friend of many who've had their art work and music ripped off, I may have different values than some among us.
The cause (Sprite-Midget Club) is one I want to support, and I really want to purchase the 2012 calendar. But not at the cost of sacrificing what I believe is right and wrong.

JMHO, Phil

Would seem to me that if Gerard gave his art to the club for their use this is within the scope of that.

Would surely be easy to ask him if you have a prob Phil.

Hi Jack - I'm not sure of this, but I do not think that reproduction rights pass along with ownership of the original artwork. I could be wrong...

What's going on with the calendar?
Is there going to be a calendar this year?

To answer Phil's question...

I contacted Gerard and asked him to please look at the calendars and say one way or the other if he had any issues at all with them.

Here is Gerard's response, with his permission to post:

"I hold the copyright for the 50th logo, but not the club logo; that Jim did not feel the 50th logo appropriate for a 2012 calendar and so was not considered for inclusion; and that I haven't seen anything else in the calendar that had anything to do with me"
