sprite engine trouble?

Hello, I am new to the LBC car thing but am working on a 65 sprite. I have had some engine work done and am putting the engine back together. I have installed the crankshaft, camshaft, front plate and pistons connected to the crank. No timing gears installed yet. What I have ran into is that the #1 piston rod bearing cap is hitting the 2nd lobe on the camshaft. (the lobe for the #1 piston intake valve.) This just happens when the cam is in a certain position. I realize this may not happen when the timing gears are installed but am wondering if I have put something together wrong or what? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you, Mark

Don't panic yet. Install the gears and get the cam timed then try it, carefully.

Assuming that you have a 1098- do you have the con rods in frontwards?
