Sprite Chrome Hubcap Fitment Issues?

I bought new chrome AH hubcaps to replace the tired/tarnished/scuffed old ones on the car. I have no idea if the ones that came with the car are originals but the replacements has a different lip profile that makes it very difficult to put
on. I put 1 on and right away I feel I might have a hard time getting it off without causing some damage to the cap. The diameter of the lip is smaller and doesn't sit on the same line as the old one. Anyone else encounter the same problem? Besides a flat head screw driver; is there a more graceful (and less damaging) way to removing the hub caps?

This is pretty typical of reproduction hub caps, at least the ones I've gotten for British cars. I don't know if there are different sources sources for these, so that's the case, your best bet is to have originals re-chromed. Not the cheapest route, but at least you know they will fit properly. As long as the copies don't pop off (seen that too), you should be OK.

I use a medium sized prybar wrapped w/some masking tape as a pad.

I have no worries of the caps falling off.. My concern is bending the hubcaps out of shape prying it off which I haven't tried yet. My old caps went on/off without a lot of effort but held on just fine on their own. With the new cap, after I pushed it on, I immediately thought "oh crap, how am I gonna get it off without damage!". Gerald is right about the re-chroming. I've gotten screwed so many times by reproduction parts I should have known better! So for now I'll just keep my fingers crossed for when I do pop them off...
