Spridgets invade MG2016?

Here is the deal. I'm committed to helping with MG2016 since it is in my hometown (Louisville,KY). One of the things that is almost always lacking at national MG events is Midget representation. 2016 can be the year that we remedy that situation, Here is what I have in mind ... a spridget piggy back event.

It would work something like this:

  • We (spridget owners) promote MG2016 to other spridget owners and encourage people to register so that we are all covered by the event's insurance and can participate in all the great activities already being planned for MG2016.
  • We request to host a tech session that promises to be more entertaining and informative than any other (more on this later)
  • We designate a "spridget central" hotel (to help foster spontaneous tech sessions and activities)
  • We schedule at least one drive/tour during "tour on your own time"
  • We have our own special voting/awards at the car show that do not overlap with the MG2016 awards. (We ask that the sprites be parked next to the midgets on the show field)
  • We offer regalia through a company like cafepress.
  • Optionally: we volunteer to run the funkhana since spridget owners know a lot about having fun in cars.
  • Lastly, if the local SCCA chapter is brought on board to do a gymkhana, then we bribe them to make a tight course to favor our cars. Sadly, there is no guarantee for a gymkhana, but it has been discussed.

I've had some input and verbal commitments from a few people, but I need to gauge interest and solicit additional ideas to be able to submit a proposal to MG2016.

Let me know if you would be interested in attending or helping plan the spridget portion. MG2016 is June 13-17. Pricing and hotel information will be available soon.

Having just returned from MG2015 where there were two (2) CB Midgets on the show field, I am with you Trevor. Louisville is within 1 days drive of a lot of us, so let's get together to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Midget.

Too far for me, sadly.

Drew, Bill M, Rick B, and Mike drove from western Washington to Elkhart lake Wis. for Midget 50. Nothing too far...just a longer adventure!:eagerness:

Kurt.

It is a bit of a catch22 for spridget owners. For MG2014, it was close enough for many of the spridget owners here in louisville to go, but because it was so close the location wasn't appealing to them.

When Healey Conclave was here in Louisville it was difficult for me to shut off my daily obligations to enjoy the event. I plan to do better with MG2016. I'm blocking off my days from 9:00 am til 11:00 pm and plan to immerse myself in the event. I just need to convince some spridget owners to join me. ...off to facebook I go!

Would love to do it, but there's that whole day-job thing. Maybe in 20-30 years when I can retire...

Vacation? Louisville may not be your typical vacation destination, but we do have horses, bourbon, bluegrass music and a bunch of MGs during June 13-17, 2016.

Once the Bugeye is done I'm going to try and make one of the big conventions. Never done one -- still bummed that I missed the Sprite and Midget 50s. Hopefully I'll have Penny finished before the 60.

My wife has family in Louisville and we're overdue for a visit. The only question is if the school calendars will allow it. It's right at the end of the school year.

My favorite sight in Louisville is the airport right after you get off the plane and walk through the terminal, there's a sign that says (or words to this effect) "Welcome to America's 16th Largest City". Really? I can't think of anyone who goes around cheering "Yeah! We're number sixteen!". :chuncky:

Louisville actually is a very nice city, and it doesn't take long to find yourself out on some back roads.

The Austin-Healey Club of America will be holding it's annual Conclave event in Covington, KY on June 12-17, 2016. It's roughly 100 miles between the two (2) cities.

Hmmm.... I can't say that I've noticed the sign. The only thing that I find amusing is the statue of Colonel Sanders ... he stole that look from a the Kentucky Colonels after the Kentucky Governor granted him membership. BTW, I am also a Kentucky Colonel. https://kycolonels.org/

First. Good on you!

Second: proud yet humble - and our website says so (snicker) you heard about the boy who won the humility award at school? they took it away because he accepted it.

Third. I repeat - good on you

About 50 percent of the adult (non-felon) population of Kentucky are colonels. It is a bit of a joke. Most are inactive.

Important clarification. What percentage of the felon population are? And are they actve?

I'm intensely interested in at least one of those things!
On second thought, three of them.
Don't care that much for horses, I've ridden, chased cattle on them, cleaned and cared for them... but I'm over it now.
