I have a new Moss starter on a rebuilt 1275 . It works but is noisy and sometimes misses the ring gear. I'm told that there are no shims with this application, just bolt it on and it should work but I wonder. Anyone else had this issue.

Is your ring gear in good shape? Should have no problems. I've had very good luck with Lucas starters. Generators are another matter!

You need to make sure that the starter is fully into the hole in the back plate before locking it in place- if the starter is angled and not straight it will cause the problems noted
