Spridget fuel cell

I'm posting this here as it is "Spridget centric"...

The resto-mod Spridget I'm building will need a new tank. Going with the "racing" theme I'm considering a fuel cell rather than a replacement metal tank. I will have the option of using or not using foam and of strap placement. I will probably go with an 8 gallon unit, plastic or aluminum. I'd like to keep the cost reasonable, say <$200 and have found one of the correct size and displacement at Summit.

Question: Has anyone here done this, either for racing or street, that would be willing to share some information regarding the plumbing. The filler tube on the cell I'm looking at is not optimally located; I'd like to plumb it to either the stock location or up to the flat right behine the cockpit and in front of the boot lid.

Its not within your cost but Speedwell sells a fuel cell made to the original size location check their site might save some fab/plumbing work

Ray, why not just leave it like it is, and open the boot to fill it? That's the way my H Prod car is, and I know quite a few people doing it that way.

I drove my Spridget on the street with the same ATL fuel cell I have now (it is now a dedicated track car).
This was more of a pain in New Jersey since we are not allowed to pump our own gas and it always involved a big conversation with the gas jockey.
Anyway, I'd leave the cap attached the fuel cell (safer) and just open the trunk.
On my car, my 8 gallon cell required me to cut out the floor....1/2 of the cell is above the trunk floor and 1/2 is below.

I could do that, but this car is intended to really be a driver...some long trips, multiple stops for fuel, with stuff in the boot, like a couple small soft side overnight bags, sidescreens, and convertible top/sticks. Lot of stuff to move around to fill up.

If your theme is 60's racer I don't think they had fuel cells back then. Mabey a new "stock" tank is the way to go.

Fuel cells weren't required in the Sprites in Prod classes until '98 or '99.

That's the theme, but it's also a resto-mod. There will be a number of parts that are not "period correct" but have been updated...such as the Tilton pedal box and MCs, alternator, Optima battery, modern Auto Meter gauges, etc.

where are you guys finding the tilton pedal box and master cylinders?

$995 for that speedwell fuel cell! ouch!!

I got the pedal box and three MCs from Dave (The Winner's Circle - https://www.spridget.com/ ) at the Mitty this spring.

The setup I'll be using will be the 72-623A pedal box, 5/8" MCs (74-625U) for the front disks and clutch, and 3/4" MC (74-750U) for the rear brakes.

Agreed on the Speedwell cell...I'll probably go with the 8 gallon one from Summit.
