Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-]

Just wrapping up four excellent days at the the Spridget 50th
celebration at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO.

This was hands down one of the best planned & executed car events that I have ever been to!!

Huge thanks to Jim & the rest of the committee for all of your hard work, and for the genuine passion & obvious dedication that went into making this event the smashing success that it was!

I would also like to personally thank everyone who participated in, or contributed to, the event. Each & every one of you was a key part of making this gathering of Spridget enthusiasts feel more like a reunion of old friends than just simply a car event.

My favorite part of each day was spent in the hotel parking lot. It was thrilling to hear so many BMG engines rev up and drive off at the same time! Hours of each day (in between the planned events) were spent watching new & old friends help each other diagnose and solve mechanical & "Lucas, prince of darkness" electrical problems.
There were so many selfless donations of spare parts to get a fellow Spridgeteers car running correctly (or sometimes just running), & I have to sincerely thank the guy who walked around on Friday afternoon handing out ice cold beers to the large group of "repair coaches" as they freely dispensed advise from the sidelines (I have to admit, I was pretending to be one of these experts... mostly just to get a cold one!!).

The hotel parking lot now has a fresh coating of motor oil (& a few spots of antifreeze, gasoline, gear oil, & beer!), but the comraderie & friendships that were created & reinforced by this 4-day gathering will undoubtedly long outlast any physical remnants of the weekend!

Thanks again to everyone! I'm already looking forward to our next Spridget family reunion!

Jack - how about you start planning the 50th anniversary for the 1959 Bugeye - then all of us whose cars weren't ready this time, might - might be ready

I was actually whining to a friend about not being able to attend and she said, "well, when's the next one?" - "50 years from now?" :cryin:

Congratulations all on a job well done - apparant even to us spectators.

Wow, that's great - I just knew it would be that kind of event. I'm really sorry I couldn't make it.

Well - maybe for the next one eh?
Make it the 60th?

Hey, btw - welcome to BCF!!

I thought it had been decided that there was going to be a gathering for the 50th Anniversary of the MG Midget, and they are going to invite the sprites to join?

Yes, Trevor, after all, "they are the SAME car!"

I knew you'd wise up.

Welcome to our humble forum Kevin! I was just talking to Tony (Barnhill) on the phone and mentioned that you had joined and said you found the forum from the Spridget Shindig.

By the way, you may notice that my forum software was modified (by me) to replace the "at" sign in your email address with a small .gif image of the @ sign. This is to prevent spammer bots from harvesting your email address from the forum.

Anyway, glad to have you aboard! The Spridget forum here is one of our more active forums!

Basil, that's a really smart mod.
My son (the 10 year old computer genius) would be really proud of you!!. I know I appreciate it.

Re: Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-

Just a quick jump-in to also extend a welcome you Kevin!! You can count me in also on a Midget re-union and/or Kennys suggestion for a '59 BE 50th (since I have a 59!). You cannot imaging the regrets (and envy) I have for not attending after looking at all the great pix, videos and post from those fortunate enough to have been to LoO!

May I suggest an idea for having an all-marks BCF anniversary gathering at some point (10th anniversary IS comming up!!). The camaraderie of a gathering of the BCF membership is awsome to contenplate!!

Welcome, Kevin...you'll find that the positive atmosphere enjoyed at Spridget 50 is also present on this forum...you'll be right at home.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you at the 50 and look forward to staying in touch virtually, as well as the next face-to-face.

Re: Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-

Ok, because I am too excited about these darn cars and enjoying what I am hearing about the LotO meet, and because I am too dumb to keep my mouth shut , would there be any interest in having an all BFC event here in the midwest?

I know next to nothing about setting up an event of this type, but I know of several area locations that would be a good venue. There is an event here in the fall - British Car Festival, September 7th, www.britishcarunion.com (but not much during the summer) that might be a good gathering point to see what kind of interest there is, who the local members are, etc.

This idea may not take off, but you don't know if you don't ask. That's probably how the LotO event came about, someone asked.

Re: Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-

Just learned that two "locals" took home 1st-place awards - both of them are in the Nashville British Car Club:

Mark Endicott, Bugeye class; and Paul Stedman, Midget 1500

YAY!

Re: Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-

Rik Holman took home 3rd in Midget 1500 & I caught 1st in MkI Midgets ('course mine was the only one there...)

Mickey, I thought of you when passing through clarksville on I24, but we had already had some vehicle problems and didn't get home until 2am as it was. I am sure we will meet again sometime. Maybe in Gatlinburg. That seems a good gathering point for some of us in the southeast area. I noticed a lot of shirts that had gatlinburg on them.

Re: Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-

Yep - it's a very nice show, even though not as big as many.

You may want to put the Nashville show on your calendar - October 4th:

NBCC Show

Looks like a nice one developing...

Re: Spridget 50th - Lake of the Ozarks - XLNT!! 8-

I plan on attending and will try to get Tony Barnhill to also attend. Kim, you should try and make it. It's a good show. If you do, bring some homade beer. I didn't try it and now wish I had.
