I have the BL Midget 1500 Workshop manual and it states pinion preload to be 11-13 foot pounds. That's not right is it? I've always seen it in inch pounds at about that level. Is this a misprint? Anyone have any other data?
 
No, its foot pounds. I forget how many foot pounds on the big nut to crush the sleeve and then see what it takes to turn the pinion. Its preloaded a lot. That pinion takes a lot of force when people spin the tires or gear down.
 
I'm not talking about on the nut, but measured preload to turn the pinion. I looked online and fould another manual that states the same but in in/lbs. Every other diff spec I've ever seen says in/lbs and below 25. It doesn't make any sence to load these little bitty bearings that much. These morors don't put out that much torque to deflect the pinion that much. Nine inch Fords only use in/lbs too. The more I read the BL manual, the more typo's I find.
