Sprained Wrist

If you can't tell - I'm bored!

Sprained my left wrist Saturday disassembling the front suspension on my Corvette....left side came apart easily (well, not real easily but without too much effort)...I used chains to take the tension from the compressed coil springs so they couldn't do anything.

However, on the passenger side, I set my chains on the coil spring a little too loose & when the last bolt came out of the frame, the jolt of spring decompressing knocked my impact wrench from my hand, twisting my wrist.

Its gotten better since then but I still can't completely use it....it doesn't move as easily, is still swollen, and can't take the pressure of a wrench.

Maybe in a couple more days....

First time ever that a coil spring hurt me - & it wasn't on an MG! D@MN American iron....hehehehe

Tony, Sorry to hear of the injury. Because I suggested that approach, I can't help but feel responsible. I wasn't trying to steer you wrong. My apologies.

Bummer, Tony. Immobilize that sprained wrist and try not to do anything with it until swelling goes down. Ice, compression bandages and ibuprofin/aspirin help a lot.

And, see what happens when you work on an American car and ignore your LBCs????

Bad karma . . .

Jay - don't feel bad...it was in my mind all the time I was looking for a spring compressor....& the only reason it jolted wass I had my chains too loose on the 2nd spring because they were a little hard to get off the 1st spring after it had extended itself....so, my bad.

Tony, this will help reduce the swelling and inflamation:

Take a large pan you can fit your forearm in - or a pan you can at least submerge your wrist in - and fill it with very warm water.
Stir in 1 cup table salt and 1 cup instant coffee.
Soak for 15-20 minutes.

You're most likely thinking how crazy is that - as I did the first time I heard it - but try it, it works!

Never thought of adding instant coffee, Peter....but, at least I'd have something to drink while I soaked my wrist!

Treat the pain from the INSIDE:

Take one medium sized glass. Add ice cubes until full. Add a copious amount of single malt Scotch. Drink.

The pain will become less noticeable....

It's no cure.

And the hangover the next day will also distract from your wrist.

Repeat treatment as required.

How's that for both short and longer term therapeutic effect? :jester:

Well, finally got fed up with doing nothing & disassembled the steering from the Corvette frame....wrist hurt some especially when I used pickle fork on tie rod ends....but, I've decided to just use it!

Tony,

You need to quit working on those
American cars - it's bad for your health!

Lucky that you didn't sprain both wrists. You can still wipe with the good one.

Shouldn't have used it y'day - real sore today.

Tony:
I`v worked through many many minor injuries during my welding/fabricating days.
Now years later SOME of those same injuries are screaming at me! {especially in the mornings}
It is He** to get old!
Take care of that wrist and lay up for a day or two. Believe me, it will be worth it in the end.

Amen!! What used to heal in hours now takes WEEKS.

You'll feel "good enuff" and then do somefin' STOOPID.

Back down and heal, Colonel.

Paul, Have no Idea what you meant and I most surely DON"T want to know

I wondered how long it would take for you to pick up on that.
