I don't know how rare these are, but I thought I'd point it out. NFI, but I just like finding the less common Triumphs for sale on CL.

Triumph Sports Six

Andy, how rare is it?

Will be interesting to see if it sells, price seems a bit opptimistic but what do I know.

($4200 for that rebuilt stuff does seem a bit steep).

Keep 'em coming John!

Wish I was Jay Leno. :frown:

Really rare (number quoted in the article is about right), IF you don't consider that it's just a rebadged Vitesse.

I had one, had a terrible time selling it. Eventually took less than half what I had spent on the car (including lots of spares and two overdrives); plus had to deliver it some 800 miles away. Even had the original 1600cc 6 cylinder engine (although the intake manifold had been modified for SU carbs).

Somehow, I don't recall Jaguar making 78 bhp wonders !

But, the 2.0 GT6 motor is supposed to drop in and work well. Even a 2.5 TR6 motor can be made to fit, although the remainder of the drivetrain is a bit weak even for the 2.0 (and there is supposedly no room for a TR6 gearbox).

Yes, the number 679 is correct...for the USA-only run of convertibles (out of a total of 8447 Vitesse 6 convertibles with the 1600cc engine, along with another 22, 814 saloons with that engine. Total production numbers for all Vitesse versions here. Note that a fair number of these were also sold in Canada, badged seemingly at whim as either Vitesse 6 or Sports 6, but at least in Canada they got the option of the saloon version as well.

Well, maybe back in the prewar or immediate postwar era, when Jaguar was still using engines supplied by Standard!

And the 1600 really is a sweet engine, although the 2.0 version is almost as sweet. But as Randall says, figure on at least the complete GT6 drivetrain, not to mention upgrading the front brakes. (The original Sports 6 used the same smaller Type 12 Girling calipers and 9" discs as the Spitfire and Herald; later versions used the bigger Type 16 calipers and 9.7" discs.)

As for the car in question, it's been for sale for, ISTR, over a year now. Whether the price is right is hard to say. I've seen some better pictures, which is unfortunate in that they show a less than totally professional paint job. And I, too, would like to share in the profits of that shop doing the work listed for $4k+!

Hmm, those missing headlight trims may be 'minor', but I'll bet they are hard to find and then they should be painted to match. Hood badge and letters also seem to be missing, but they are easier to find.

Darn it all: the listing is gone.
Really ? The link above still works for me.

Canley doesn't have the trims listed, though perhaps it wouldn't be too hard to find them used. And I agree the badge and letters are easily replaced, just pointing out a couple of undisclosed defects that someone else might not know about.

Hmm, I guess it was just in the local cache. When I hit refresh, I get "expired" as well. Sorry for the misinformation.
