I think there is a thread on the forum, about tires for the Spitfire, I couldn't find it.

I have some 4.5J wheels and I'm wanting new tires. I figure a "dedicated set" for Solo II. That way I can use use either Spitfire use one set of tires for events and have the "mile maker" tires for the round town driving.
I'm thinking 175/70 13. Any suggestions for brand and store would be appreciated. Looking on the web I found a place in the UK that has Yokohamas for only $150 each and only $150 to ship them. I know you get what you pay for, mostly, but I'm wondering if there are less expensive tires closer to home, here in Phoenix.

I have 175/70s on a set of 5" alloy rims. Got mine from Tire Rack..

70s might be a little wide for the 4.5" rims..
 
I have been running a set of Prime Well tires on my 78. They have been great tires and were about $50 a piece if I remember correctly. Bought them local in Indiana, Pa at a place called Tire Express. They even had 5 in stock.
 
Have you checked out this thread .

For performance use, I'd stay away from "all season" tires.
The best tires for your purpose would have a UTQG rating of under 200 (pretty soft). These will rarely make more than 30,000 miles but that really should not matter.

THESE are $103 each with a UTQG of 220. Not bad.
 
try to locate a Kuhmo Solus KR21 tire-I have been shopping for a full set of 13 inch radials for my sprite and selection is getting tight unless you go to one of the "vintage" tire suppliers-much cheaper than $150 a tire
