Spitfire Spitfire tires

Does anyone have a suggestion as to the best size tire to put on a 68 Spit? I was looking at 155/80R13 but I'm afraid the 80 may be too tall and will cause rubbing. Does anyone know what the best size it to avoid any rubbing in turns and provide a quality ride? Well as quality a ride as you can have in a 68 Spit!

I'm pretty sure that's the size (Michelin XZX's) I have on my Mk 1 and I have no problems. The spare doesn't fit in the trunk correctly. I had to move the hold down bolt.

The 155/R80 13 was, I believe the proper size tire for the spitfire and will work well on them. I am currently running 165/R80 14's in my 68 and I have never had a problem with tire rub. I have read where some owners are running 195/80's without problems but that would be pushing it.

I bought from Sears some Good Year brand tires 155SR80. They seem to fit well. If I don't latch the bonnet properly sometimes the left hand tire will rub. A friend uses 185/70 with some wider wheels and they fit. The Spitfire GT6 Magazine had a place on the web site regarding tires. As I recall they asked for tire size, brand, and other comments to be recorded. It may help. T.T.
