Spitfire Spitfire Rubber Bumper Pad Removal

Is it possible to remove the rubber bumper pads that were installed on the Spitfire's in '75?

I understand the purpose, but they look tacky. Can they be neatly removed, without leaving a big hole in the chrome bumper?

If you're talking about the two front black rubber "underriders," yes, they can be removed. However, you'll be left with two body-colored frame extensions that look worse. I have a '76 and have ordered a pair of the less-obtrusive, earlier-style underriders that were installed on '71-'73 MKIV and 1500 models. It appears they can be installed on later models once you remove a plate at the front of the frame extensions. I should know within a week or so if it's a direct swap and will post results. Wish me luck.

Looking forward to see how you make out on that swap. I have a '78, and if I end up keeping it, I want to do that swap as well.

I, too, would like too see how your swap goes! If its not hard, I may like to loose my big ugly rubber overriders also! Send me a pic, or post it if you can put it one your own website (then just use the "image" button when posting to point to the picture).

And then I think about last summer when I watched a guy from my cafe table back into the front of my spit 2 or 3 times while parallel parking "by feel"! Wonder what the nose would've looked like then with the small over riders on...
