Spitfire Spitfire Mk1V Headlight Bezels - Small Holes?

I removed the headlight bezels from our MkIV Spitfire to install new headlamps. While the castings were off I figured I'd remove the multiple layers of old paint and re-paint the parts.

When I got down to bare metal I found several places where there appear to be 1/8" tooling holes through the castings. Are those holes supposed to be left open or Bondo(ed) closed?

Thanks for your input and observations.

Doug, I can't quite picture what you mean specifically (although I do know what the bezels look like). I would assume, based on various ones I've had or seen over the years, that no such holes show, so they would've been filled! I can look at my remaining stash tonight; just where are these holes?

Well, I looked again and after sandblasting the parts the holes only appear to be on the left-hand bezel. There are three (more or less evenly spaced) holes in the "hoop" that goes "over" the headlamp.

Since the holes only appear on the one bezel, I'll take your advice above and fill them in so both sides look the same when painted.

Thanks Andy.

:savewave:The stud holes could be the holes for anchor placement studs, for alignment for the castings. Can't figure you just found them on just one side.good luck.
