I have seen several internet articles about upgrading the lug bolts on a Spitfire. Most are out of date (discontinued part numbers). Most of the numbers can't be cross-referenced at my local NAPA parts store. Does anyone have recent infromation about upgrading to a 12mm or 7/16" wheel stud? Will a TR6 or TR7 stud fit a Spitfire hub?

I needed to grind a little notch in the head of the studs as well. I will look and see if I can get you a part #. I think I threw away all the plastic baggies. You will need to modify the wheels to fit over the bigger studs. I have a set of redrilled Mustang wheels I'm planning on using up front. BTW, I'm not certain if these will work on the rears, but my guess is they will. Have fun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
This is a million years ago - but I put TR7 mags on my Mk 1 Spit - required no adjustment, they went straight on - using the TR7 wheel nuts. I obtained the mags cheap from a buddy who bought up the old Leyland Australia parts when they exited the continent in the early '80's. He had a business reselling Triumph parts in OZ. Actually spent a summer vacation (was still in colledge) sortng through old NOS triumph spares over the summer - cannot imagine what they would be worth now.
 
The picture looks very neat, like they were meant to be that way. I have found 1989 Taurus rear lug bolts are a close match, but the hole is slightly smaller than the shoulder of the lug (.015"). Did you drill out the hub or simply force the new stud in?

By the way, how do you hold on with an eight cylinder in a Spitfire?
 
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gifI drilled the hubs out a tiny bit on my drill press. I then tapped them in with a hammer. After they were most of the way in I finished the job by wrenching them in with the lug nut.
