Spitfire Spitfire hardtop hardware

Any chance that anyone is holding onto the brackets and bolts that are used to mount the hardtop with and would be willing to sell them?
(two chances: slim and none, I would guess)

Do you mean the angled hole thingy that's on the top, and the threaded piece that's on either the soft top or the body, if the soft top's not there?
Tie down bars, according to Nigel at Spitbits.

I am going to wind up making mine. the advantage of working where there is a complete machine shop.

Yes.
I have one of the short ones, (for use with soft top left in place in car) but would want the long ones, I believe.
If you wanted it for a template, I could send it to ya. Maybe we could get someone else's long bracket and then you'd have both. I know I'd buy a couple sets off you if you built them nad I'm pretty sure you'd be able to sell them on eBay as well.
What do ya think?

Hang on to it for now, as I have too many projects. When I said I was going to make mine, mine is a long way from needing them

Keep it in mind though, maybe before spring.

We'll get it done though.

Do you have the top bracket?

Steve

I purchased a fair Spitfire hardtop several years ago. We love the car with the hardtop and seldom remove it.

The restoration was ridiculously expensive DIY. As I remember the hardware was $100.

Not counting the painting and no glass needed,I believe we spent $500-600 for hardware, headliner and seals for all but the side windows.

Steve, I've go two tops and I will have to verify, but i believe both tops have the top brackets, which are should be screwed to the tops. I'll check in am. Referencing the Vicky Brit cat, it's part number 1.

part number one, the angled thingy.

Interestingly, VB only has the left one, according to their catalog.

Coupla minutes with the CAD mill should come up with something.

The tie down bars would require some old fashoned blacksmithing, but nothing out of the ordinary.

My mistake, Steve. Number 1 is screwed to the hardtop itself and it appears to work on either left or right side by flipping it upsidedown.

I have part number 2, tie bar - for use with soft top left in place. I'd like to get ahold of the longer tie bar for use while the soft top is out.

I just came up from the barn and the brackets are a left and right. The screw holes in each are set in the rear of the brackets, so they are not interchangeable.

Still pretty simple, the CAD has a "mirror" button, makes a left and a right from the same drawing.
