Coming home today my car sputtered and died.

As it turns out I have an installed spare electric fuel pump which i turned on and all was well. However. why does my 77 Spit seem hard on fuel pumps? This is the forth or fifth in 40,000 miles.

Is there a better one available?

Is there something I am missing?

Probably all this new lousy fuel were being force fed!.. All the gas from my trunk mounted filter to the carb bowl went bad in less than two months. I mean mango orange smells like water bad!...
 
I'm guessing the fuel pumps currently on the market are crummy aftermarket manufacture.

BTW I have acquired three Spitfires over the years and all three had at least one electric fuel pump installed (one had two). My first car was my MKI which still had the orignal pump installed on the engine and gas was pumpe dthrough it by the electric pump. I was able to buy a kit from TRF that was way more expensive that the aftermarket replacement pump. Kit went in fine and is still on the car 10 years later. I don't think the kits are available any more. I have in my special drawer one of the early GT6 fuel pumps with the priming lever and glass bowl. I am going to try and use it on my 80 model when it gets on the road.
 
In my case here I have not taken the pump off yet. I am waiting to get a new one.

In the past the pumps failed at a crimped area as I remember.

I just wondered if anyone knew where to get a better one. I plan to leave my electrical back up pump in place.
