Hi Lads,

I need a bit of help with my 79 spitfire. I am conflicted about the colour scheme. Should I use Lotus colours green with the yellow racing stripe or should I go with Triumph colours blue with a white racing stripe? I think both would look rather good when it is all finished but I can't decide for myself.

Cheers,

Ok guys,

Come on, so far I am still as conflicted as when I began. I need more help than this.

It seems that blue and white are pushing ahead easily in the standings. Hmm now I wonder which colour should be the primary and which the racing stripe. Any input guys?

American Racing White with Blue Stripes - as seen on the Cunningham

and other racers.

I vote for blue with a white stripe. But either way your gonna have to post some pictures when your done, seeing as how we all have so much thought and effort into this one.

Steve,

I shall deffinately be posting pics when it is done. However I am a very long way from painting it. I just want to figure out how I am gonna paint it before I begin any of the custom work I am going to be doing to it.

P.S. This summer I should start posting pics of the car as it is and as I progress in the work on it.

Aloha Walter,

I'll vote for the green with yellow stripe color scheme. The triumph factory teams at Le Mans used a green with yellow colors.

Dave

Dave,

Yeah I love the look of the LeMans cars. Thats what first really inspired me to consider using those colours on my car.

P.S. I only wish I could get a LeMans GT so so cool

I vote for the green and yellow stripe. The blue just seems so normal and you see more of those. Why not make it stand out and be differant from the crowd. I like blue better then green but I think the british green is so rich and stands out and turns heads more then the blue.

Ok well blue white has a five three lead now. I think I should mention that I know the paint scheme for the car regardless of the colours. The primary colour will be the dark with the light colour being across the grill and tapering into a racing stripe, a la LeMans GT spit. Not sure if that makes a differance to anyone or not.

Here's a link to a site hosting the Miata stripe machine. You can try out various stripe colour combinations on a virtual Miata and see what you like. Yes, I know it's not a Spit, but it's roughly the same size and configuration and will at least give you a rough idea and perhaps rule out purple with an orange stripe!

Edit: Oops, forgot the link

Izual,

Come on man a colour blind teenager? Green and yellow are the traditional British racing colours, not to mention Lotus' colours.

Eric,

Thanks for the link very cool. And I hadn't thought of purple and orange that might be a possibility.

Walt - I'm not disputing that. I think it would look good. HOWEVER this is the US. All I'm saying is that if you chose the green and yellow it wouldn't be appreciated by all. My TR7 is going to be bright orange. So just pick the colour that makes you happy. Or paint the front half of the car green and yellow, and the back half blue and white.

And about my earlier statement, I was thinking of a different colour green. Not BRG.

Blue w/ white stripe gets my vote. Green with a yellow stripe just makes me think of a colourblind kid in a Honda Civic.

Izual,

I hadn't thought about painting the front half green and yellow and the back blue and white interesting idea. As for the green I have to agree this is the US and most people only see those colours on an import with gigantic Japanese letters in the rear window.
