Spitfire AutoX tires

Anybody running the Kuhmo V710 in 195/55/14 on 6" rims on Spitfires? Wondering what offset and what wheels have been found to work and how good these tires really perform compared to a Advan A048... ???

I stayed away from them for this reason alone.

"Achieving the best performance requires that fresh Ecsta V710 tires be used, as their performance level will drop off after a typical race weekend's use."

Took that off the discription right at Tire Rack. Looking at Hoosiers now.

The V710 is one of the best autocross tires around, and is light years better than the A048 in terms of posting fast times. The A048 is aimed more at track day enthusiasts, and won't generate heat quickly enough for the typical autocross track, but will survive a lapping day brilliantly. The V710 would last about 10 minutes lapping a race track.

These are very different tires built for very different purposes. The V710 is ultra soft, ultra sticky and heats very rapidly (just what you want for autocross and exactly what you don't want for everything else).

If you're autocrossing for fun, stick with a track style R compound like the A048 or the newer Toyo R888 or Nitto NT01. If you're trying to win, the V710 or the Hoosier A6 is your choice (assuming you're running in a class that requires DOT R compounds).

They are wrong... The tires are good all the way to the cords.

We had no problems running them at Nelson Ledges last year During the 2 hr. enduro on a hot day.
And we were mostly turning 1:22's...
(That's some brutal abuse)

You know I was originally considering those 710's before I read that line on Tire Rack. It makes sense that they'd make a better Autocross tire. But after reading the description and wondering if Id only get one track day out of them I looked away. The section width of the 215 13" is about a half in. bigger than a 205 13" hoosier. Not sure what that would effect in terms of my rear spring clearance so I ll likely stick with an R6 tire. Christmas is coiming!

We used to run the 205's a couple years ago but Kumho nixed them...
We're all running the 215's now.
I have a few on 6" rims now if you want me to measure em.
Don't know what rims you measured them on but it makes a bit of a difference.

Hankook Z211 on close out special this month.

There is an add in the back of Dec. SportsCar.
I never ran Hankooks but other people seem to like them...
And the price is right.

I've burned up a least a dozen Kumho ECSTA V700s in the last few years.....they wear well are a decent track day tire (and they used to be cheap too). I hate to admit this but I probably ran them all down to the cords (or close) and they kept sticking. Have not tried the 710s.

These days I'm buying the Toyo RA1s and the newer Toyo 888s (on both Spridget and Escort). Prices are good and I like the way they work.

I bought two of those closeout Hankook Z211s from Frisby (14" for the Escort). Ran two events with them. Similar to Toyo RA1s...maybe a bit softer with faster wear.

Are you sure thats not an old ad? Nothing on there website and I thought they stopped making that tire some time ago?.?.?.

Double checked...

Yep...December 2008 issue of SportCar...
(Volume 66 Number 12)

SportCar is the SCCA's official publication.

I didn't suspect anything was wrong on account of never having used their tires.
