Spitfire Spitfire 4 Side Window Glass

I am trying to follow instructions for removal of side window glass on my 65 Spitfire 4. They (Haynes) make it sound easy but Icannot seem to figure out how to get the glass to release from the lift arms.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

According to the factory manual:

"Remove the interior handles and trim panel. Temporarily refit the regulating handles and lower the glass.
"Remove the inner weatherstrip* by pushing it downward into the door. Take out the guide packing piece (16) from the lower end of the glass frame (one bolt) and partially raise the glass. Remove the clips and leather washers securing the regulator arms to the frame and lift the glass from the door."

*Ive managed to skip this step, but I think it's much easier if you do get the weaterstrip out of the way!

My 1971 Spit side glass was only wedged into a thin rubber sleeve, sitting in the metal trough of the window regulator. It was the same on my TR4s. I left the window up, door closed, then carefully pulled up on the glass & 'wiggling' it to free it. Once it came loose on one end, and with the inside panel off, I used a wooden stick to pry it up & free. Installation was easy, put it in and press down.

Hope it works out for you. Dono

If the early cars are anything like my '72 the clips can be awkward to release. I found that using an inspection mirror and flashlight made it clear how I needed to push each clip to get it to release. Once the clips were off, the glass was easily separated from the regulator mechanism and lifted out the top of the door.
