Spitfire Spitfire 1500 fast road cam question

Looks like I'm going to rebuild the 1500 I'm putting in the MkI. I already have a DGV conversion and am planning on running a header. Would I benefit from installing one of those "fast road" cams advertised at BV or Spitbits? I'm not looking to build a "race" motor, more like a "spirited" street motor. Any other tips or tricks? Thanx!

I have one in my spit and love it. In my engine the torque comes on strong at 2K and pulls strong all the way up to 6K. But a cam is only one piece of the puzzle. I raised my compression ratio up to about 9-1, ported and polished the head like the comp prep manual shows and installed an MSD ignition. I'm not sure if the DGV will breath enough for the cam though. I'm running dual DCOE 40's

I have a DGV... and its DEFINITELY NOT for power. I do get about 40 MPG with the thing though lol! I don't know what all as been done to my engine yet, as I've yet to pull it apart. But so far there is the DGV 32/26 carb, crane xr-700 electronic ignition, electric fan, no emissions junk, 4-2-1 header, and a really nice sounding (nearly straight) exhaust.

I'm going to get some DCOEs, SUs, or the Mikunis after I start my rebuild. I'm probably just like you on this though... "do I get the 83 cam, 87, or what #???" as I've had no answer on which one has the shorter grinds (as in, closer to the shaft. I'm milling the head .050-.100, and don't want to use shorter pushrods)

I had one on a '76 1500 and it seemed to wake it up a bit. I never really did any tweaking to it though. Maybe I'll just stick with the header and use the $$$ save to buy a new set of tires...

Tremendous variation on those "fast road cams" Builders notes on my green engine has some very zesty words on the BP "fast road cam", not at all complimentary. My blue engine has a TT "fast road cam" in it, and the engine is dead and flat. Builders note on it reflect similar sentiment as the green engine builder.

Fwiw, I put an Isky cam in the green engine, and wow, that woke it up. It was a ZM cam as I recall.
