GT6 Spit6 on the way.

Fortunately, there is (was, but hopefully still is) another option, thanks to Joe Curry. Check this out:

Thanks Andy, that was something like I had in mind and have already talked to the owner and we are going that way. Kind of a no brainer.

Any chance you can get away for a few days, we'll give you a chair and a cooler to set and give directions. Then we make the trip up your way.

Thanks again, Wayne

That's a shame, that you won't be able to work on your own stuff. We could use you here, but thanks for taking the time to keep us in the right direction.

We have all but 2 bolts left for the body to come off. Doors, hatch and steering all gone to a pile in the corner. We will roll it side ways, really a junk body, and has one of the sunroofs of the era, not bad shape, anybody want one?

Getting the frame cleaned off will take the most time, keeping all the little clips and not breaking stuff.

Thanks , Wayne

Hi all, a little up date. Body off and mostly stripped, will be checking out all components to see what can be rebuilt, all rubber parts will be replaced.

Andy, the rear will need new seals and best I can figure it's a 3:27-1 but you would know better, #KC 71387. It's very smooth and I just hope the transmission not working is the clutch. We are taking a break tomorrow and will pick the engine and tranny Friday and take it to his house for a tear down. The rear donuts look good, but I have some here if it comes to it. All brake hoses are suspect, will see what his Spit looks like. U-joints are stiff, replacing those.
I did notice we didn't have much help show up and we had lots of disassembly fluid. Never use it on assembly or dirty hands. I should be charging by the cut, my hands are torn all up.

Till next time, Wayne

The diff. almost certainly would be a 3.27:1, yes. Not that new seals aren't a good idea, but it could just be the vent has been plugged for years causing fluid leaks. As for the u-joints, is there any provision for a grease fitting? Stiff isn't necessarily bad, but if they're "sealed" (i.e., no place for a grease fitting), then it's worth the peace of mind and a few $$$ to change them out. Brake hoses are not "suspect"; they should just be replaced. Period. Not that they can't conceivably last upwards of 50 years, but.... ;)

Thanks for confirming the ratio and the brake hoses will be replaced, I just figured on using the Spitfire ones. I know the front should work, but the rears look a little longer on the GT6.
We need to call the shock mount store today, Joe Curry, but the site doesn't seem to be active. Will try the phone and hope he has one left. I could do one, just hate to spend the time, when that one would be perfect.
My day was spent getting stepping stones and concrete edging stones for the garden, a couple hundred of those suckers are heavy and then you must try all kinds of placements to make she who must be obeyed happy. I didn't build a big enough garage to hide in, take note everyone.

Back to work, Wayne

Andy, What Now Coach? Joe's phone listed on the site is not any good. Any idea who else may be making these?
I did get the wife happy for now and will get the yard in the morning before we start on pulling the engine.

I will cut all the shock mounts and trailing arm mounts off the body after taking some measurements in case I have to make a shock mount. I do wonder why Joe didn't make it so it also bolted through the original shock mount, just a little extra support in that area.

That's it for now. Wayne

All, Joe no longer makes these parts as he was losing money on them. Not acceptable in any way for that much effort. He was kind enough to send the blue prints for making the street version and no one could have been nicer. A big THANKS to Joe. Now to find a shop to make it, he did stress laser cut only on 3/16 sheet metal.
The email address Andy sent was good.
Headed to the frame to get the engine moving to his house, what wonders we may find in the transmission.

Wayne

All, transmission is turning fine, the slave was stuck and had the throw out bearing frozen in the pressure plate, I will pull the top off after it is pressure washed. The frame is getting it also. It setting in his drive way on stands. We had one problem, the engine picker on dirt is not a roller, had to put plywood under it. The horst was the heaviest part of the whole operation.
Not much left on the body to take off, master cylinders and the brackets for the trailing arm and we are taking the inner fender shock bracket just in case.

Kind of interesting how much needs to be interchanged when using the GT6 frame which had mostly junk stuff on it and we have to use the Spit hoses.
All rubber is being replaced.

Thanks all, Wayne
