MGB Spit guy with MGB question

I have found a 1980 ( 1979 ) MGB for sale and the guy wants $3000.00 Canadian ( $2200 U.S.) It has about 50k miles on it and looks to be in great shape and only the odd bit of surface rust where there has been a couple of scratches. It comes with a hard and soft top and the interior looks very good. It has been driven only one summer in the last 7 years since he bought it ( He also has a 65 GTO which explains why the MGB has been sitting). He is a friend of a good buddy and just wants it out of his garage as he has a new truck that he wants to pay down quick. So what is this thing worth. I would probly keep it and the spit as the spit is almost ready for collector plates and the MGB looks like it just needs a good wash to get me there ( And a good tune up ) It is a nice yellow with black stripes. Any info would be great. Thanks Zer ( the Tomato Man)

Derek, if it's in that kind of shape, it sounds like a keeper. But, I'm not a 'B' guy. Probably Tony or Chuck should weigh in on this one.

If its solid structurally, runs, & hasn't been chopped up - & the hardtop is a factory top - its probable a good buy at that price....

what Tony said. before you buy it read shameless website plug and shamless plug for Tony's site

Derek;

I agree with the other guys in terms of the car sounding like it is worth the money if it is as described.

The reason I'm writing though is to say that I too have a 80 Spitfire along with my 73 MGB GT and find both cars to be wonderful rides. I enjoy the B for it's comfort and old car feel, compared to the Spitfire's really small car feel, compared to the B.

Thanks for the ideas folks!!!!!!!!! Derek

Zer, does it currently pass aircare? Those late B's are full of emissions stuff.
Personally, they're so choked by emissions stuff that their performance is dreadful, but you still might be able to squeak it through with a set of SU's.
Not the prettiest MGBs of the run, but I guess a B is a B, and that's a lot cheaper than a chrome bumper car, and it probably has overdrive, am I correct? Lowering it down would sure help, its look and handling. Maybe you can bring both cars to the VanDusen meet in May!

Good luck with the new find...
