spin on oil filter--oil not being filtered

Well Dave C, I have to ask a question here first. When you change the engine oil and the filter is the filter full of hot oil then?

These Spin on filters use a wide variety of anti drain back valve designs. Consequently, for those that are not of the optimum configuration it just may be possible that they leak oil back into the sump when mounted and stored in a compromising position, for long periods of time.

However, should I have a situation like that I would source a different filter/adapter type until I arrived at the more conventional results.---Fwiw---Keoke-AZ- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif

Keoke, I've had about 3 different brands of filters on the car since I installed the adapter. One of which is the WIX. On the most recent change the car had been sitting all winter, so it was cold. AT this point I don't remember which brand of filter it was that I took off. I also have a list of the "good" filters. I only use them. It could be related to the drain back feature. I'll pay more attention to the brands now for awhile.
