Spin-on oil filter for BJ8

Hi all
Question for those that have already changed over to a spin on adapter. How much force do you have to apply to loosen the two bolts holding the oil filter housing casting onto the block? I tried to take it off to fit the adapter but was worried at the amount of force I was applying to the bolts. Decided I might shear the bolts so gave up. Anybody had a problem in removing the casting?
Cheers
Steve

Has anyone located a source for an adapter that would allow the filter to hang vertically?

I don't know yet if it works around the starter, dizzy, and generator but the elbow from the original fiber filter technically fits. The holes all line up I believe.

I found a company in the UK that may offer the type of filter adapter you are looking for.
Flexolite.co.uk. I have not contacted them. I have no commercial interest...
Can't tell if the filter hangs vertical or horizontal. They seem to have 2 models available for big Healeys.
Good luck.
Douglas

Hi Bob
Thanks for your reply. I'll have another go when the filter is due to be changed over
cheers
Steve

You're quite welcome, Steve. Another thought: Were you trying to remove the bolts with, say, a 3/8" drive ratchet and socket? If so, what felt like excessive resistance may not have been so much; IIRC the bolts are 5/16" or even 3/8", it would take a lot of torque to shear one even it it's only Grade 1. Try a 3/8" breaker bar, and if that doesn't work try soaking with a penetrant--I like Kroil--for a couple days, and try heating the bolt and surrounding area with a propane torch (to allow the penetrant to do its thing).
