TR4/4A Spin on oil conversion TR4A

Installed a spin on converter this summer and all was well until last weeek during a lovely Sat. this week to take the LBC for a quick spin. Oh no, fresh oil spurting, and I mean juggler style from where the spin on converter housing mates to the engine block where the cansister once saddled. The oil diminished to just a damp spot once the engine warmed up. Has anyone else had this problem. I will do and oil change and good inspection. Perhaps the coupling came loose, the gasket got pinched, or the casting is poor, but your advise and experience would be appreciated. And yes of course these LBC's leak but not hemorage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

Might have worked loose though mine never has. As I recall the instructions specified red Loctite on there but I didn't do that as I wanted it easy to redo if it did leak.

Larry4a, had one on a4a that never would seal around the 'O' ring and as my friend was ready to drive after years of working on it, we went back to old style. We are going to order a new seal this winter and see what happens, one oil change and he was ready to try the new one again. Wayne

When I did my TR3 I found not one but 2 old seals crammed up in there. Got 'em out one by one using a dental pick to snag them and a mirror to see what I was doing.

For the new seal I had a bundle of seals leftover from years of cartridge changes (they seemed to give you several with each cartridge) and selected the best fit. Used blue Hylomar generously to settle the new seal in place.

Hi Geo, wish that had been the case, but it was the one on the internal part and as I got to it second, I think it had been over tightened the first time and did a number on the seal surface. Same guy cruched in the value cover. Wayne

Thanks for your input guys, nice to know we are never alone with any problems with our LBC's and someone out there has already bin there done that. Thanks again
