Speedwell Starter

Finally getting a 1st hand look at the Speedwell starters today. I got a couple requests for them for my 5 speed customers. Impressive in several ways. The current version can be adjusted in 45 degree increments so that the power post can be oriented to your desire. Compact size and significantly lighter weight over the usual GR starter. Great match with my adapter plate, and installation will be a breeze.

Tom's authorized me to carry/supply these, but I'll still carry both types as the Speedwell may be too rich for some.

That looks really nice, Gerard. If I didn't already have the GR one for my Bugeye I'd pick one up from you.

Gerard,

Any thought about using the longer pinion gear or not to make sure gear gets >50% contact engagement with flywheel and your adapter plate. I saw that longer pinion gear available for < $20. Thought on whether it should be part of package to get the best fit.

BTW I agree this looks to be best bet for a G R Starter out there.

Hi Jim,

I have sold a lot of the GR starters and there have not been any issues, but if those gears fit correctly, which I understand they do, it's not a bad idea to swap out. You didn't get one of those from me, so not sure if you plan to add one later. I will look into it at some point as an option.

That's on the list of purchases for down the road. Wiring Harness and a set of Speedhut Gauges for Speedo and Tach are the next big purchases.
