Speedometer Lagging

After working on the brakes and installing a new ignition switch (over some time), I took the car out for a test drive. Everything worked very nice, but I noticed the speedometer now lags a lot. It seesm to read accurately, but takes about 90 sec. to indicate the proper speed, and then when I come to a stop, it stays at the driving speed for about 1 minute, then slowly (1-5 minutes) returns to 0. Any ideas?

Google for and download Anthony Rhodes' 27 page PDF covering repairing Smiths & Jaeger speedometers. It sounds like you need to clean the needle bearings on the pointer spindle in the gauge. You can pay to have the gauge cleaned and reconditioned or you can do it yourself using Mr. Rhodes document.

Thanks! Thats a great resource, and was exactly what I'm looking for. Looks like your right- guess I'll become an expert on the speedo as well! (The gauge that is!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
