Glad to hear you got your speedo fixed.
I'm a little incredulous about 'jewels,' I've had several Smiths speedometers apart several times--even got a couple back together that worked--and never saw anything resembling 'jewels.' The cable drives a worm gear, which powers a couple pinion gears for the odo and trip meter, and a bar magnet that turns, using magnetic flux, the speed indicator needle platen. The needle pivots on a thin pin with a watch-like spring which seems to ride on some embedded brass. Anyone know what, if any, 'jewels' are in a Smiths speedo? These are mass-manufactured devices, likely built to a price point; any real 'jewels' are unlikely, but I stand ready to be corrected.
