Can a 140 MPH speedometer replace a 85 MPH in an simple swap? Also my temp gauge stopped working, imagine that! A must for these cars. I misplaced my manual and looking for resistance check on the temperature sensor. What typically goes wrong with the system and can gauges be replace / fixed?

Disconnect the wire at the temp sender. Ground the wire to the engine, and turn on the ingnition. Your temp gauge should pin on full hot. If it does, you need a a new temp sender. If it does not, then it is the gauge.

Speedos are a direct swap except for the fact that sometimes the speedo cable won't quite lock into place. Can't remember all the details, but there were two different cables. Similar but different. Might have something to do with 4 speed to 5 speed. Connection at the sender or frayed wire is almost always the cause of no gauge symptom.

Were the 140s only in 5 speeds? So thinking if someone had a 4 speed and tried to fit a 140, that's where they ran into trouble. Mine is an 80 so originally fitted with a 5 speed and if my deduction is correct I shouldn't have a problem? Just brain storming.
