Does any one know where I can get a spring for the speedo that returns the needle to zero? Mine looks like my X-mass lights (another PO repair I'm getting around to)(same guy who seems to have bought duct tape on sale).

cleaning out a box of gages and I found the whole inside part minus face plate/needle of a speedo. THe spring is red coily i think. I can get photos when I get home-Josh
 
youre going to have to find another one, I was playing around with it, not noting that i was turning it the wrong way. killed the coil spring. Sorry-Josh
 
Well, thanks for looking. There must be a web sight for Smith gauges some where that sells replacement parts or a junk yard in Merry Old England on the web. I guess the hunt is part of the enjoyment of our old cars.

when you get it just be sure you dont turn the back round plate in the wrong direction. thats what I did and it uncoiled it. -Josh
 
There are sites on the web for Smith's guages. I sought out a few for a gas guage inquiry a while ago. One is: Nisonger Auto 888-781-6968. I think they're in N.Y. Another possiblity is West Valley Auto Electronics in Reseda CA. Phone #: 818-758-9500.

I have not used either one of these companies, but thought I'd forward you the info I had. I'm sure there must be other qualified business who work on these guages. Good luck.

Thanks, all. I contacted all of the speedo shops recomended and none of them sell parts. Apparently there is more to it than that. The magnets have to be tuned to the spring or something. I hate it when I can't do it myself. I feel cheated out of that feeling of accomplishment Healey owners get.
