speedo needle bounce at highway speeds

Starting to get the 76 B out of the garage and onto the road. The one thing that I noticed is that around 55mph the speedo needle starts bouncing by 5mph. Can the cable be catching at the higher speeds. It is would greasing the cable do any good? Thanks in advance Bob

Let me tell you I have been chasing my tail on my GT for 10 years. I have the same thing. I changed both angle drives, speedo cable, and sent my speedo to Nisonger to have it built. My Midget is rock solid and dead on for accuracy. I have learned to live with the bounce in the GT.

I had the same problem when I first picked up my 78B. Replaced the cable, the right angle drive and the bouncing still persisted. Didn’t feel right about purchasing a new or refurbishing my old Speedo. At this point I found a complete 79 MGB dashboard on ebay for $80 intact with all of its wiring harness, switches and gauges. The only thing missing was the hazard switch. Heck even the analog clock is about $80 through Victoria British or Moss Motors. Anyway, I swapped the speedometers and voile! – Problem solved.

So I recommend checking with your local MG Club members and check Ebay from time to time. Never know what you might find.
