Speedo cable & tach

Q #1. On the speedo cable, does it come up through the tranny cover or on the engine side of the firewall.
Q #2. Is there a source for the mechanism that drives the tach (inside the lower distributor hsg? Thanks, Bob
I'd do a lot better if I was the one who took this darn car apart. This is a lot like building my Cobra kit wxcept without the manual.

Bob, There is no hole in the metal transmision cover nor does it penetrate the fire wall. I believe it slips through at the top of the extention that mates the transmision tunnel to the fire wall. Bob G

Bob G is right. The speedo cable runs from the right angle drive, beside the tranny, up behind the vertical transmission cover and through the slight opening at the top of the panel, to meet the tachometer under the dash.

Call British Car Specialists in California for rebuilt or used mechanisms. Mine did not come with one either and they furnished me with one.

The reason I questioned this is because in the AH restoration manual there is a picture and note of a speedo cable coming out midway up the tunnel about half way down, front to rear. I admit this was a BJ8 but why would that be different. The photo pointed out the slit in the carpet for cable access. For now I have run the cable BEHIND the verticle panel and up the engine side of the firewall and there seems to be plenty of length and very smooth curves. Bob

Earlier models did it as others have described. Later ones did it as you describe the photo. Take your choice I guess, or leave it the way you have it.

Hi Bob, if you do not have the hole in the tunnel I suggest you obtain the BJ8 grommet and eyeball locate one in there, it makes it so easy to connect the tach and also seal the tunnel to the scuttle.---Fwiw--Keoke

I went back to check the BJ8 application and noticed that the cable comes out behind the console so it is undectectable. On my 100/6 it would be right in plain sight so at this point I think I'll leave it on the far side of the firewall. If replacement ever becomes necessary this would be the easiest location to change rather than between the extension panel and the firewall or poking through a hold/grommet in the tunnel. Thanks for the suggestions. This car will never be a candidate for concurs so absolute correctness is not a requirement. Bob
