Speedo and Tach Gauge Rebuild

Trick6

Jedi Hopeful
Offline
I have spare gauges that I wish to have refreshed to replace the existing. The present speedo works fine except it stops on the 20th of a mile on the trip odometer as I am traveling which stops the main odometer from recording mileage. So a gear or something in there is worn. The bezels on both need new paint. So I figure why not have both rebuilt?

Where do I send these for rebuilding?

Mo-Ma is the best, but I've heard they are badly backlogged.

Another choice is :

These people used to have a very good reputation, but I've not heard much since they've changed their name (and presumably focus) :
West Valley Auto Electronics (was WV Instrument Specialists)

Al,
I plan on sending my gauges to West Valley (I'm not home but I think that was the outfit) at the end of the season. They came highly recommended by Herman and Dick Taylor. When I called they gave me step by step instructions on what "data" they needed from me in order to recalibrate the speedometer. As I recall, the cost for the speedo was $120 for the rebuild and speed recalibration and $80 more to change the odometer gearing out. I'll be home Tuesday night and double check my facts.

Thanks guys for the input. I will look at all suggestions. This project is not time sensitive or critical. I am just preparing for a fix of the gauges as this rolling restoration continues.

Speedycables might be a bit far....

Randall, do I remember from other recent posts that you had concerns about Nisonger doing rebuild work?

There is also Palo Alto Speedometer and APT (www.gaugeguys.com)

I've used them twice, TR3 temp rebuild and TR6 tach, and I was satisfied.....
Don't know about actual shipping, though, as I'm a walk-in customer.
Ask for Morris, he's the owner/rebuilder. NFI.

Just repeating what I've heard from others. The owner/founder of Nisonger's retired and sold the company to someone else. Some people have been happy with the results from the new owner, others have been unhappy.
