Speedhut Gauges

Thinking about issues with Speedo drive on a 5 speed and needing to make an access hole so adapter will fit in there as well as converting from Mechanical Tach to Electronic Tach as I want to run an alternator. These are costs to consider and I seem to recall someone installing a Speedhut GPS Speedo and matching tach in their BE. Gundy?? I can't recall now.

Can you post pics of these gauges in your BE? I seem to recall custom graphics being available or something like that to turn these into Smith Gauges. Looking for details. TIA.

You do not need to cut a hole for the speedo adapter on a 5-speed.

Here's an older thread about using the electronic transmission sender for the Speedhut electric tach. I didn't use (or have!) the Rivergate angle drive, but this set up is working well. Click on "Blue Max's" thumbnail picture-- it looks like he got Speedhut to nail the look of the original Smiths' gauges. Maybe you could email them that picture to show what you want.

Just be sure to check-fit the gauge retaining ring, making sure it screws down ALL THE WAY CLEANLY (I had to clean up the threads with a razor blade, sandpaper and a plastic scrubbing pad) BEFORE you install it in the dash!

They make a GPS speedo so you don't need a sending unit at all.... even works with Positive Ground, they informed me when I asked about a year ago...

Here's the ones I had them make for me, they turned out really well, sorry for the sorta blurry unfinished pics, I wasn't concerned with originality but I was concerned that the speed cable in the 200-4r comes through the tunnel around my thigh and goes under the driver seat up to the speedo. I was happy to patch the hole and be done with it.

How much extra do they charge when you supply custom artwork?

Also, my design that I originally sent them was too detailed so they found another one and did all of the editing for me. They didn't charge any more than the initial 10 dollars and I even got a multi gauge discount for buying the 2 gauges together. I'm very happy so far with my speedhut experience.

I was modifying the dash anyways so the high beam light and turn signals in the speedo mean I can fill those holes in the dash.

Alan had some custom GPS gauges made. He added some indicator functions too. I think he is going to route some line behind the mirror. Very neat. The faces look like a retro version of
original ones. I like them a LOT.
Sigh....next time.
I had a working Smith's speedo from something. Not sure what. Works and is pretty spot on. I went with this for the Smith's tach.
"What do you want and we will make it". This is what I wanted.
Those guys will make you anything.
Speedhut must be the same way.
Good for us.
Alan is a bad influence. Those stock looking Speedhut jobs are the bee's knees.
:cool-new:
