TR2/3/3A Speed O not working

Yes Randall-- I believe I was wrong the OD is an A type. It came out of stock 1961 tr3. Yes, years ago I took the numbers off and you told me it was stock and an A type, soorrry for the confusion.

Well I got it out; no need to go to the gym for a while. There is one difference in the 2 that I have. The new one I am using has an O ring and the broken one does not. The teeth count and the size is the same. I might leave the brass on new one alone. Inside I can see the seal is still place and there is like a small factory punch mark that creates a small divot to help hold the 2 brass pieces together in place. I guess wipe the housing clean and pull inner spindle out-- clean that-- put some 30w on and slide it back together. Any other thoughts are much appreciated.

Makes sense to me. I wouldn't mess with the seal unless it's been a problem.

I don't know what to make of the lack of O-ring. I think mine have all had the O-ring (or at least the groove for it). The groove even shows in the parts catalog diagram. Maybe an old aftermarket part?

Yes I thought it could be an older aftermarket also; it fit sooo tight like some kinda inferior repo part too.

With the o-ring it can fit quite a bit looser without leaking. I think I put mine in a drill press and sanded the OD before it went back in. The break is interesting too. The cable must have really jammed up at some point to break off the square drive like that.

The cable route for right hand drive takes it through the chassis grommet for the brake line then up to the firewall grommet to the right of the battery and for left hand drive the grommet to the left of the battery, I don't know how it gets from the right hand chassis to the left of the firewall.

That is the route I took. Getting the frame grommet back in was a challenge. Had to remove it to get the cable cap through the frame.
