SPEED Channel on TV

Speed Channel had a little segment this morning on the TR6 Paul Newman drive. It had the number 44 on the side, and it mentioned the 240Z he drove for Bob Sharp as well. I saw him win at Road Atlanta with what appeared to be an ulimited $ budget sponsered by Datson but I don't remember him driving the TR6. I think it was 1976 the TR6 was KING of the GT D class (I am probabley wrong on the class) but the race was exciting because the TR6 was sliding all over the track. SPEED ch mentioned the class change TR6 made with SCCA from the FI to "SOLEX" carbs. Good news clip if you get to see it.

I remember watching Newman race at Road Atlanta in the Bob Sharpe Canon 240z. I really respect the man. He's not just fluff. Most actors are superficial and rarely get out into the competitive real world. Newman has given millions to charity from the sale of his salad dressings, competed at a very high level in racing and just seems like a real person. That's my opinion. Anyway, I enjoy going over to Road Atlanta('bout an hour's drive)and looking forward to the Walter Mitty thing in April /May. MG and Triumph will be the focus events.

Gunner:
Do you remember the year you saw Paul run at Road Atlanta? I saw him win GT III or II at the Brazelton track and the only thing I liked about the win was the driver, Paul Newman.
A year or so later a single beautiful E Jag beat the whole Datson Club ( a whole swarm of datsons); even after one Datson (club sacrifice imho) appeared to intestinally ram the E Jag about mid ship in the first few laps of the race. The Jag went on to lead the race so far out in front that the cameras don't do justice to the Jag as the camera follows the competitive Datsons compete for 2nd and lower places. What a race, but I don't remember the year... '77 to '80 period.

The Walter Mitty is one of my most favorable memories of sport car racing. Hope I can make the Walter too.

Thanks Vettedog72... I think I may have found it... that is if it was hosted by Paul Newman himself. I have my replay set to record it next time it airs.

Thanks for the info!

The group 44 TR6 that Paul Newman drove is presently owned by Bill Warner. Bill Warner brought the group 44 TR6 to EUROFEST at the BMW plant in South Carolina a couple of years. Bill also drove the TR6 at the BMW test track and it was a real joy to see. Last August Bill brought to EUROFEST the group 44 TR8. Bill also hosts an excellent car show at Amilia Island. This show is by inventation only. The Group 44 TR6 has many modifications. The one that caught my attention is it uses Corvair rear hubs.

Looks like the show is "Legends of Motorsport". I'm going to set it up on my DVR to record every time it's on. Speed TV shows it all the time with frequent replays, there is lots of British events as well as good sports car content.
