Spedo shaft direction

Anyone know which direction the speedometer drive should turn? I have a couple of speedometers and want to test them to see if either work.

David, I don't. But when you drive in reverse the cable spins the other way without ill effects. So just spin it slowly in both directions to determine the normal direction.

On my TR3A I used a cordless drill to check both the speedo and tacho.

I seem to recall testing my speedometers with with the drill set in reverse.

it spins in the direction the needle turns ... that is how the magnet applies force to the clock spring.

Tested my speedometers and both work. Now need to test the Tacho.
