We just opened a new exhibit in our changing gallery called "Fabulous Fins of the 50's and 60's - The Jet Age of Automotive Design". We have some very special cars there, but in our lobby, we just placed GM's Firebird III Concept Car. This is the epitome of tail fins, and is considered by GM to be the most valuable car in their collection. I will now have the honor of getting to detail it from time to time during the 3 months it is here. I have posted some photos of the current displays on Flickr. If you are going to be in the region during this time, I highly recommend you drop by to see this exhibit, and the rest of the museum.

Dave - the '50s and '60s were sure the height of design. Wow - great collection you've got there.

I always wondered how the driver and passenger could communicate in that Firebird III. Reminds me of the Get Smart "cone of silence". Also interesting that it had a separate 10 hp engine just to run the accessories.

Wow. Looks like a great exhibit. Especially liked the '56 Desoto, the '59 Pontiac, and the '57 Ford. Can't recall ever seeing photos of the back end of the Firebird III before...very cool.
