special-bodied Singer up-date

The project is complete. Thought I would post a pic or two. The engine is lively, especially for the weight of the car. To quote the owner, "You sit ON it more than you sit IN it"

Great fun to drive!!!!!

Re: special-bodied Singer up-date

Conversion to remote reservoir girling master brake and clutch slaves complete and installed. I was pleased with the resulting pedal feel.

Boy, is that nice!!

Re: special-bodied Singer up-date

Very, very nice, eschneider!

By the way, what's the lowdown on the engine? Size, power, etc.??

And, how much does the car weigh??

Very pretty car.

If I didn't have two other projects currently in play right now I'd be looking for one of them also. Austin Specials are nice too. I would trade one of my projects for either one.

Re: special-bodied Singer up-date

very nice...long ways from its original Singer but that frame is still on the road so it counts.

Very nice !

To clarify, I'm just the wrench jockey on this one. It was a fun car to work on.

I'm told that the engine and trans are 1296cc spitfire, but the engine numbers were removed when the block was apparently decked, and the trans numbers didn't seem to jive with any common information I encountered.

I didn't drive it much, but the motor was well-tuned and crisp. It wouldn't surprise me if the PO had bumped the compression and installed a cam. I didn't spend significant time with the motor. However, the car was VERY light, so that was as much a contributor to the feel as anything else.

I'm guessing the weight was around 1400#, but I didn't weigh it. Certainly less than a Morgan 4/4, which is a scooch over 1600# It is a steel chassis, with an aluminum-skinned wood tube and not much else.

Most of the work I did was re-designing the hydraulics, going through the rear axle, brakes, and electrical work.

Much credit goes to the friendly consult of the North American Singer Owners Club. Thanks, Mike!

Very cool car, in the true spirit of a Special

A lost art form these days...

Re: special-bodied Singer up-date

That does look like a whole lotta fun. I sure hope the owner gets out and drives it a bunch.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Me? Big?

I wouldn't know for sure, but it's been rumored that I look a little funny when upside-down and backwards under the dashboard of a Morgan......

Re: special-bodied Singer up-date

Well, I guess depends on if you're the lil-un in the hat or the big-un with the goatee!

Nice Morgan by the way!
