Did anybody ever check these guys out over in the UK?

Classic Roll Bars

Seems kind'a cool and has that BMW Zed3/Zed4 look. Don't know if they'd ever meet SCCA standards bu the folks who make'em claim that they are functional?

Hard to tell from the web site buy any thoughts?

kinda neat... I like the asthetic properties of the design
 
SCCA rules state that on open cars, the main bar must be 4" above the drivers head. The material has to be D.O.M. in the .125 thickness.
 
Not sure how good it really is in a rollover situation. But it looks to be secured much better than my old rollbar with the cheesy hardware & backing plates. This one looks to have a much more elaborate anchoring system.

But again its' hard to get anything out of their web page.
 
Actually, it's 2" above the driver's head. Tubing sizes depend on car weight, but 1.75X.120 is a good start.
 
Wonder how they test em out " Ok JR, drive real hard there down inta turn one and drop that left side off the berm... thats right...now jerk er hard to the right.......LOL
 
Those are waht I want to put in my V8 car purely for asthetics - but I'm worried they'll interfere with my "Windblocker"...Tom Rynne - any ideas?
 
They sure look good. I wonder what "extensive testing" means. Someone rolled the B over dozens of times? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

In a computer SIM test, apparently. It ~does~ look nice, so aesthetically: thumbs up... BUT: if it ain't attached to the CHASSIS it ~just~ looks nice. I'm sure it'd be better than NO rollover protection.

In fairness, the outer ends do apparently attach to sheetmetal at more than one plane, so that bit helps a great deal. And I give 'em points for "seamless" but what "material"?? they could have been a bit more specific. We can handle ISTM Spec's without whining.

worse comes to worse you could make a custom windblocker to fit between the hoops. you could attach/deattach it to/from the roll bar using velcro straps... just a thought /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I like them. I've been looking for some like this since I got my B. They'd look even better chromed. I don't like the straight square shaped ones that sit higher than the windscreen.

Tony, I bet you could strap a piece of lexan/plexi across between them and still have a nice windblocker.

only a slightly bigger piece to also block the lower open area on our cars. Or then again, you know how to bend lexan, so you could have a horizontal section so you still have access to your parcel shelf from the drivers seat (and alowing the top to still go up and down), just would take a little measuring.

I'm still working on designing a hard boot cover that would contour up to the shape of these bars, and have a built in windblocker (and able to stay in place with the top up or down). I'll start mocking one up in a few months (Need lots of foam and fiberglass). I was originally going to incorporate a faux roll-bar into the design.

I saw a different roll bar on eBay a while back that had an identical appearance to the ones they put on the Audi TTs. However, whoever designed it did not take into account that later model MGBs have a different battery cover and the design of the roll bar looked like it would prevent access to the battery compartment on "late model" MGBs. the other design flaw (if you can call it that) was it appeared to be a purely asthetic bar as the mounting system consisted of a piece of angle iron that went across the front lip of the "package shelf" and a single bar that went down between the seats and attached to the tranny tunnel, but did so in such a short distance that it would fit in a car with a center console...

I'll have to see if I can find it again.
