TR2/3/3A spare tire compartment holes for modern license

Anyone deal with how the spare tire compartment holes for modern license plates do not match the original ones on the spare tire cover from England. Anyways I am looking for a way to use the original holes on the tire compartment cover and not drill new holes in the cover or licenses plate. Perhaps some kind of 2 for one deal from a vender is out there?
 
Mine came with an adapter that I cleaned and re-used. I have not seen any modern equivalents.

How cool John and I do not have one, I am envious. I see some knockoffs on line, but maybe I will make one. Always looking for something makes me young and fulfills the primal motive to hunt. i think the cars i had the drilled the cover

I had not even thought about the license plate being mounted. I guess that makes two of us with another project to work on in our spare time . Very cool adapter that will make for a fun project. Thank you for the picture John. Frank
 
If you guys decide to make the bracket, it uses spacers on the studs to give enough room for the screws and nuts holding the plate...long enough to hold the bracket and plate away from the painted tire cover.
 
I have already decided to make the bracket, but I don't know when I will start it. When I do I will check back for some dimensions if I get stuck making it. Frank
 
Interesting. My 56 spent its early life in California. The holes in the cover matched the holes in my Ontario plate, and presumably the black CA plate that came with the car. Just as well, because I never thought of the holes when restoring and painting! Cheers, Mike
 
Somebody probably drill and filled your holes because the European plates are different. Or maybe they were not drilled until they hit America. I have a few old covers and will look better at them.

I got a chance to check my spare tire cover last night and my license plate mounting holes match modern plate so no need for adapter plate. Frank
