Any ideas on what is up with this spacer on the front spring? Both sides have one...

Someone felt the front end was a little low, and added those to raise the ride height.

Had some similar ones on my first car, a full-size 62 Chevy. I couldn't find any in a quick Google, so maybe that style has fallen out of favor, but you used to be able to buy them at any speed shop.

Funny, my passenger side had two! Here's a pic from 4 years(!) ago...

Pulled them off, measured both springs and they were equal, so off they remained!

I've got bigger issues to deal with on her, so any harm in just leaving them for now?
Nah, I don't think so. Some claim that they can weaken the springs further (by putting more stress on the remaining free coils), but I doubt it makes enough difference to matter.

I remember putting a set on a car I had a gazillion years ago, It was a cheap way to give the rear end a slight lift and give the car a rakish look. Course it was tough to do with a 49 Chevy fast back coupe. Rakish look that is!
