I've got a pair of 5-1/2" diameter half sphere shaped air filters that fit HS4 SU carbs. They have foam filter inserts that are washable but I'd like to replace them. Does anyone know a source for replacment foam filter elements like this? I'm going to try to attach a picture. Thanks for the help -

I'm just guessing, but have you tried Summit?

www.summitracing.com

Also, If those old filters are dried and hard. Be very careful with them. I know a guy, who let his get in bad shape. Oily, greasy, old and dry. His car backfired into them and the whole car went up in flames.

Hi mperdue, You might try K & N filters they may have a foam liner that you can add to those frames.---Fwiw---Keoke

I didn't see them at summit and I haven't seen a K&N that will fit. The problem is I'm trying to get this setup running on a budget for now anyway and I bought these cheap on Ebay. I was hoping there would be a source for cheap elements to get me going for awhile. Eventually I'd like to go with the K&N cones and scrap these. So anyway if anyone knows of a good source let me know. I really need these soon!!

ps. yes these are all crusty and dried out, which is why I want new ones /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why not just cut a piece of 1/2" foam & put it in the filter? If you cut it to the same shape, the filter holder would help it keep its curve - would be the same as what you have now....& you could even pour a little oil in them

Just make sure you use the right kind of foam. There are two types-- open cell and closed cell. Open cell foam allows air to flow thru...

Michael, I go along with those suggesting; make your own inserts using black open cell foam.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Well I found a supplier for sheets made by UNI. They sell sheets that can be cut into any shape. It was recommended that I go for a 2-sheet setup with a course sheet on the outer later and a finer one for the inner layer. They also make the proper oil to make the filters more efficient. These are normally used for off road use but I think with the 2 layer setup I'll be fine for my street car. Here's a link to a page showing the filters: https://www.unifilter.com/accessory-catalog.htm I got the BF-1 sheet and BF-2 sheet (from a local supplier) so the overall thickness will be 1" thick. Hope this info can help someone else out. I'll post a picture when I get the inserts in. I should pick them up tonight after work.
