Sorta odd 1500 question...

I'll start of by saying I'm a Triumph guy. I know a bit about Spitfires and Heralds. So when a co worker bought a '79 Midget and had some emissions control questions, I figured I'd help out. Anyway, the car is missing the air rail, smog pump and cat. After looking at it closer, there are no provisions in the head for the air rail. The car does have an EGR valve and 2 sets of mounts for throttle cables(?). From what I've learned so far is the block is a Federal Midget 1500 (FP6339UE) the head is from a 77? (TKC3239) and the vin # is GAN6UL213757G. The tag in the jamb says June 1978. I'm wondering if someone swapped out the head when they de-smogged it. It does have a double pulley on the crank. Any advice is appreciated. Thanx!

Well, I'm sorta an odd 1500 owner so maybe I can help. Yep, sounds to me they swapped the head (at least) if there aren't any plugged ports. IIRC I have a 3239 head here that came off of a '77 that doesn't have ports for the rail. My '79 has (IIRC) a 1409 or 1410 but I could be wrong. Find me a 2748 and I might just swap my smog head for it. I should still have the rail, pump and mount too.

Want to sell 'em? I have a spare 1500 head.

If you don't strike a deal with kellysguy...

I have a TKC1410 head if you are interested. It's low compression (7.5:1) with smog ports and hardened valve seats (CA smog spec). Recently removed from a running car. Includes valves, but no valvetrain.

The TKC1409 casting is also a low compression smog head (49 state/Federal spec).
